Posted by Rob Riggins

As a Marine-owned company ClearedJobs.Net is honored to salute the U.S. Marine Corps on its 237th birthday, Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Marine Corps Founding

Captain Samuel Nicholas formed two battalions of Continental Marines on November 10, 1775, as directed by a resolution passed by a committee of the Continental Congress. The resolution was drafted at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, calling for marines to aid in the fight for independence on land and sea. Robert Mullan, owner of Tun Tavern, was Nicholas’ first captain and recruiter.

Since then, the mission of the Marine Corps has evolved with changing foreign policy and military doctrine. The Marine Corps has served in every American armed conflict and achieved prominence during World War II when its amphibious warfare strategies were so important to success in the Pacific.

In honor of these men and the thousands of men and women who have served as Marines since 1775, Happy 237th Birthday!
