May 12 Cleared Job Fair Job Seeker Story
Note the CU Buff’s bag, courtesy of Raj’s daughter. Job seeker Raj Richardson is an Army vet who just returned from a two-year stint in Afghanistan with MPRI. Raj is a facilities specialist with inter-agency experience, who was working on developing police stations and academies in Afghanistan. His two-year adventure included a bout with typhoid, but some interesting stories. “To get out to the project sites I wore a headscarf, body armor and Afghani clothes. I was hiding in plain site, which was more effective and allowed me to move about more freely,” Raj added.
At the Cleared Job Fair Raj was able to take advantage of a professional resume review. In his words the review was “fast, excellent and precise.” Our reviewer Nancy’s thoughts for him included:
- Changing from a narrative reporting style to a sales pitch about his skills
- Using bullets
- Shortening and keeping to a two-page maximum
- Focusing on accomplishments vs. responsibilities
Raj had a good discussion with BAE Systems and was surprised to see some of the companies at the job fair. “I never knew HP (Enterprise Services) had a government contracting arm.”
Welcome home Raj and good luck!
