Take the Challenge: Preparing for a Capture the Flag Event
With the growing need for cyber security professionals, many companies are taking on new ways to engage and recruit this community. One trend has been Capture the Flag (CTF) events, which enable participants to engage in scenarios they might encounter in actual cyber attacks. You will see CTFs as a key component for many conferences, but very few organizations give you the opportunity to learn how to participate and compete in a CTF. However, thanks to the community spirit of Delta Risk, you can learn how to participate in a CTF at the CyberTexas conference.
The Insight CTF will be held August 23 from 9am to 4pm adjacent to the CyberTexas Cyber Job Fair at the San Antonio Convention Center. At the Insight CTF, you can either participate to demonstrate your expertise, or if you’re a beginner, learn the ropes. Either way, you can build your skills, have fun, and network.
To participate please bring your laptop. Once on site, you will connect to the network and show the world what you can do, or learn alongside the pros. Express yourself as a pen tester, hacker, security expert, or an interested observer.
You can go up against seven different challenges to test yourself and demonstrate your skills, including:
- Reconnaissance and Enumeration
- Windows 7 Access and Persistence
- Access and Persistence on Legacy XP Systems
- Using SQL Injection for Fun & Profit
- Breaking into Bastion Host Networks
- Web Application Hacking
- Using the Network Against Itself
This is a great opportunity to learn more about CTF events and network with your peers. We really appreciate the efforts of Delta Risk in bringing this event to CyberTexas.
Pre-registration not required. Bring a laptop with a recent version of Firefox or Chrome browser to access the network (wired or wireless) and the Kali distro we have set up for you to use.
