Wreaths Across America

Posted by Rob Riggins

Please consider putting Wreaths Across America on your 2014 calendar – December, 13, 2014. We have.

That’s next year’s date for the annual wreath laying event for veterans buried in national cemeteries. Wreaths Across America’s 2014 goal is to have enough wreaths to cover Arlington National Cemetery for its 150th anniversary next December. Arlington conducts funerals six days a week, so Saturday is the only day that wreaths can be placed.

The first Wreaths Across America event was in 1992 and has since grown to well over 100,000 wreaths and over 10,000 volunteers participating at over 900 cemeteries across the country.

At Arlington National Cemetery those volunteers included a team of Leidos employees who raised over $1,200 in donations. In fact their participation in the program and excitement about the event is what raised our awareness that as a company, we had to participate in 2014.

2013 Wreaths Across America Isn’t Over Until January

All the wreaths placed last Saturday at Arlington have to be removed. If you can, please join Wreaths Across America at Arlington for the Wreath Cleanup, Saturday, January 25, 2014. For more information contact Wayne Hanson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at [email protected].

We hope you will join us to help cover Arlington or your local participating cemetery in 2014!
