Patra’s 3 quick tips for interviewing success:

1.    First impressions count

You’ve got one chance to make a good first impression. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately and that you’re groomed. Walk in the door with a positive attitude and be courteous to everyone you encounter, from the receptionist to the President of the firm.

2. Be prepared

Make sure you’ve thoroughly researched the company and the position you’re interviewing for. Review the company’s social media accounts. Review your interviewer’s social media accounts.

Touch base with anyone you know at the company or anyone in your network that has knowledge of the company.

3. Ask questions

Smart hiring managers expect good questions.

Good questions relate to your career goals and decision making. For example:

  1. What are the goals of this position in the first 90 days?
  2. What challenges face this work unit/dept/division?

Consider one or two questions you ask everyone you interview so you may compare responses. Examples:

  1. What do you like best about working here?
  2. What type of people succeed here?

Make sure you walk away with business cards for each person who interviewed you. You’re writing thank you notes and following up, aren’t you?
