Apogee Engineering’s Cybersecurity Needs

Apogee Engineering is an 8(a) and SDB company that supports mission areas within the national defense, homeland security, C4ISR, space systems as well as the research missions of the USAFA, USMA and NASA. Apogee Engineering will be exhibiting at the CyberTexas Cyber Job Fair April 23.  In our continuing series on cybersecurity careers, we asked Apogee Engineering to share more about their company and the careers they offer in cybersecurity.

What is Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity, formerly known as Information Assurance, is the process and procedures for managing risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information and the systems and processes used for those purposes, including analog and physical form. Cybersecurity includes information availability, identification and authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation. It is concerned with the protection of all enterprise networks, both in an offensive and defensive nature.

What Particular Skill Sets are you Looking for to Support Your Cybersecurity Programs

Apogee Engineering requires expertise in Information Assurance (all aspects), network administration and Help Desk support, software development and test, systems/network engineers, configuration management, cyber operations, and cyber ops training.

What are the Cybersecurity Career Paths Within Your Company

Opportunities within Apogee Engineering  run the gamut of activities listed above, and depending on experience and desire, individuals can expect to start anywhere on the spectrum of individual team contributor to Program Manager.  Apogee Engineering provides professional development and personnel can move along that spectrum to functional leads, Task/Team Leads, Deputy Program Managers and Program Managers.

Any Recommendations for Transitioning Military Pursuing a Cybersecurity Career

The number one recommendation is get additional training and certifications required by DoD 8500.02 (IA levels).

No, all of our positions require extensive security clearances due to the nature of our work and the contracts we support.
