Don’t Stop Your Job Search During the Holidays

Posted by Rob Riggins

The holidays are upon us already. You may be thinking, “I have so much to get done, and so many activities between now and the end of the year. There just isn’t time for my job search.”

Or you may be frustrated with your job search. And the prospect of using the holidays as an excuse to set your search aside until January is terribly tempting.

Well don’t. Don’t lose weeks of potential progress. Don’t assume that every company puts their business on hold during the holidays. Hiring does happen through the holiday season. It’s also a tremendous time to network and remind your contacts that you need their help.

Patra Frame walks us through the things you can do this holiday season to keep your job search moving forward.

  1. The holidays are the perfect time to reach out and renew your connections. Life gets busy and it is easy to loose touch with former co-workers and friends who we don’t see regularly. What better way to reconnect than sending a card. Ask about the family and what has been happening? You can then let them know what is happening with you and what new goals you have. They have been just as busy and will appreciate your taking the initiative! Holiday parties provide another opportunity to break the ice and become known in a safe and informal setting. Less stress. You can then use these first contacts as a stepping stone to future conversations that center more around business. The goal is to get on the radar. Relax and enjoy.
