Don’t overdress your resume

Posted by Kathleen Smith

Resist the urge to dress up your resume with fancy graphics that you think are going to set your resume apart from all the others, unless you are in a creative field. The more window dressing you include the more likely a recruiter may pass your resume by. Why? Resumes are sometimes viewed hundreds at a time and if your resume is too difficult to read it most likely will be passed over. Give recruiters and hiring managers a break by focusing on making your resume easy to read and pleasing to the eye. In general that means a simple typeface, type large enough to easily be read and appropriate white space so it’s not too cramped.
