Interview with a Recruiter, Linda Harris, QTC Medical

Posted by Rob Riggins

I started with QTC in June 2016. If you’re not familiar with us, QTC Medical is a division of QTC Management, which is owned by Leidos. We’re the largest provider of disability and occupational health examination services in the country, and we’ve been around for over 35 years. I’m their Senior HR Recruiter, recruiting both cleared and non-cleared talent for clinical and operational positions.

QTC Hiring Needs

I recruit across the country, but we especially need medical assistants in Hawaii. The cleared positions I’m filling for the Intelligence Community require a Full Scope Poly, and are located in Northern Virginia in Chantilly, Tysons and McLean.

As you can imagine, it’s really hard to find personnel in the medical field with a polygraph, so every position I fill is like finding a needle in a haystack. Some of my most pressing needs are for Phlebotomists, Sr. Personal Care Assistants and Medical Assistants.

I encourage anyone who knows medical personnel with a polygraph to contact me! On very, very rare occasions our client will upgrade a clearance, but it generally isn’t an option, as we need our applicants to have a Full Scope Poly when they walk in the door.

What’s Your Hiring Process Like

Our hiring process includes a screening call with me, an interview with our hiring manager, and then with the client. We also drug test and do background checks.

Don’t Sell Yourself Short on Your Resume

I see job seekers not selling themselves or their experience on their resumes. Sometimes that may be the case in an effort to fit everything onto one page. But when you’re applying for a job, you’ve really got to be sure you’re addressing the qualifications in the job description on your resume. I recently had a Medical Assistant applicant who didn’t include her recent clinical rotation on her resume – that’s critical relevant experience.

When I talk to someone without relevant required qualifications on their resume, I work with them and coach them to revise their resume to fully reflect their experience. That’s part of what I do, because if no one points that out to a candidate and helps correct it, they may never realize it on their own. And I can’t recommend a candidate with a resume that doesn’t meet our requirements to my hiring managers or clients.
