Interview with a Recruiter, Ryan Brooks, TekMasters

Posted by Rob Riggins
Ryan Brooks

I have been with TekMasters more than eight years now. While my role has recently shifted its focus from recruiting to guiding our talent acquisition team and supporting our Program Managers with Customer/Client support, I still keep a hand in certain aspects of day-to-day recruiting.

Our main geographic focus area is Greater Washington DC. We specifically have focused on Northern Virginia with an eye to expand our footprint in Maryland and elsewhere as we grow our federal contracting business. In regards to the current environment, we feel we are settling down into the ‘new normal’ and we are adapting to this change to continue to support our Customers.

What Types of Cleared Positions Do You Fill

We currently have needs in hardware engineering and administration, systems engineering and administration, software engineering, and support roles around application development. We also have engineering roles around software/systems development, as well as non-technical roles. Our non-technical portfolio consists of human resources, executive administration, instructional systems design, learning program support roles and communications – most often supporting IC members.

Virtual Interview Tips

Mentally and physically prepare for a virtual interview the same as you would for an in-person interview. Yes it’s different—no one is saying it ‘feels’ the same with virtual interviewing. That said, virtual interviews have been going on for quite some time now. If you are new to interviewing or have not interviewed in a long time, we feel we provide excellent preparation to ease the potential anxiety of interviewing, regardless of the format. With our depth and breadth of knowledge and insight into the missions of the programs we support, we have the ability to align the right role for the right person while balancing the needs of the Customer.

Do You Hire Transitioning Military

We have quite a bit of work that would be a natural next step to transitioning military members. We take pride in the fact we have received high marks in employee satisfaction over the years and we take a certain pride in making our company accessible to those who have served. We know when we hire a transitioning military member, it is a big step for that individual and often their entire family. We acknowledge this fact and we take it seriously in furthering their careers and we feel humbled each time we do so.

How Can Job Seekers Contact TekMasters

We are dedicated to being accessible. Our talent acquisition team, our program management team, our operations team, our HR team and our leadership team are here to support our people. How do we like to be contacted? We would like to be contacted however our prospective employees would like to start the conversation. We know our success is dependent upon our people and their success. Through the practice of valuing their time and concerns, and by facilitating our employees success through our interactions with them, however big or small, is truly how we measure our success at the end of each day.
